Rick Spence, who writes the informative Canadian Entrepreneur blog, has pulled together the best quotes of Peter Drucker, the “father of modern management,” who died on November 11.

Here are (IMHO) the best of the best:

“Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.”

“Most discussions of decision-making assume that only senior executives make decisions or that only senior executives’ decisions matter. This is a dangerous mistake.”

“The three greatest leaders of the 20th century were Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. If that’s leadership, I want no part of it.”

  1. That last quote rather bothers me. I’m not sure that I would classify dictators as leaders in the first place, since they rule mostly by intimidation and violence. I think leaders lead by respect, fairness, and openness, and that the distinction in business is between “leader” and “boss.”
